There is a little coffee shop, where two people arrive and approached the counter.
“Five coffees please. Two for us and three hanging.”
They paid, they took their two coffees and left.
I asked the waiter. “What’s this about hanging coffees?”
“Wait and you’ll see.”
Some more people came in.
Two girls asked for a coffee each, they paid & left.
The following order was for seven coffees and it was made by three women – ‘three for them and four hanging coffees.’
I was left wondering…what is the meaning of the hanging coffees, they leave.
Then, a man dressed in worn clothes, who looks like he might be homeless, arrives at the counter and asks sincerely…
“Do you have a coffee hanging?”
“Yes we do, sir.”
They serve him a coffee…. I got my answer.
People pay in advance for a coffee that will be served to whoever can’t afford a hot drink.
This tradition started in Naples.
Amazingly, it has spread throughout the world’s cities and towns.
It’s also possible to order not only “hanging coffees” but also a sandwich or a full low cost meal.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could all start doing this in the cities and towns where we live?
Small kindnesses like this can impact so many lives, in ways we could never imagine.
Maybe we should all try it.
any place in balto doing this
I have never heard of anything like this. What a fantastic idea. I wonder how someone could start this and get it started.
I know there’s a pizza place Philadelphia that does it with slices of pizza. Pretty amazing.
Just go to your local restaurant explain what you want to do and do it
They will tell the customer that it’s already paid for and no one knows it was you it’s also known as pay it forward
It is a great thought . It would be great to see the homeless or people with little finances being treated to a coffee or a bowl of Hot Soup 🍲 & Sandwich 🥪 especially in Winter 🥶 Time
Let’s put our heads & minds together & come up with ideas M. I.
Excellent idea 🙏❤️🙏 xxx
That would be great, however there need s to be an accountability. In my town, not only do we have a No freeze shelter but the ppl who qualify for those benefits have more benefits than the hard working ppl. Yes there are ppl who fell through the hoops & don’t take advantage of others who should get those ‘hanging coffees & meals’
Yes that would be great if we could have that in are town we all need to help one another thank you for sharing this what about you are you willing to help
I know plenty of people here in Portland who think like you. And yet, I’ve just spent six months working with my church on starting up an extreme weather shelter because that is not actually the case. . . And how does it hurt you, if someone gets a coffee paid for by another person? What has it taken away from you?
So kind and caring! a good thing to do!
I never heard of it before reading this!
GOOD IDEA I HOPE THE IDEA SPREADS TO MANY PLACES & PEOPLE !
Fabulous idea.COME ON LIVERPOOL COFFEE SHOPS…
Hanging coffees for all our homeless people please….
Great idea!!!
Where could you start doing hanging coffees in your neighborhood. Do you have to ask the coffee house if they accept it. Or is there a way to share this.
That is a wonderful thing to do. Just need to find cafes that will do this.
I love in Melbourne Australia and a suggestion was made about putting fruit trees along the nature strip’s so people homeless or other wise can have something to eat
I cannot love this enough!!!! It seems like everywhere you turn these days, there’s nothing but negativity, so things like this go so far to restore a person’s faith in humanity!! 💜💜💜
I think this should happen every city , town, and state. Not all people have enough money to pay for things they want or need. Pay it forward when you can. You will make that person’s day pretty special knowing that someone cared enough to help him or her out. I have done it several times but need to start up again.
Love this idea too. But, for instance, many coffee shops in the northeast, are very expensive and the average consumer may barely afford as a regular customers. I have seen bank statements where, one month is a surprisingly large part of the documented spending of the average customer,( and look at the year’s expenses)
Considering the cost per serving , maybe the coffee shop business pays part (considering their actual profits), lowering the gift cost given by the “paying forward” consumer. And a “kindness coffee” carries
on!
I feel this is a great idea and it helps people in low incomes that feel isolated to feel they can get out and have a cuppa and bite to eat with the sense of inclusion. I have given money before , I hope this catches on . We are living in a World that needs Positivity brought back into the minds of our young and older generations and what’s the cost of a £10 if it brings someone Joy .
Just go in Mcdonald ‘s in warrington cheshire in Town homeless sit outside and 1 guy homeless himself goes out of his way to help others his name is Taff just everybody pass the word or better still ask places to leave a sign 😉
